This under stairs cabinet was designed with a specific brief, easy access to electric meter, clean work top, and maximum storage.
We decided the use of caster wheels to make the access to the electric meter as easy as possible and not to damage the flooring was the best solution. The client didn't want the wheels visible, leading us to make the doors overhang the cabinet, making the unit look like a solid piece of built in furniture.
We designed the unit with a single cupboard and a double cupboard space, both have adjustable shelving within them. This offers the client a range of storage options and provides the unit with a solid construction, especially when it’s being removed to access the meter behind.
The original meter cabinet was kept to protect the meter, we added battens down each side to provide a solid surface for the false top to be fixed to. By creating a top that was fixed we were able to utalise the full depth of the space.
We were later commissioned to design a temporary bookshelf that could be removed if the client decide to change the style of the area. Utalising surplus materials we designed a simple slot together shelving unit that requires no fixings or glue.
