As part of Pickle Illustrations ‘Like I Care’ project we worked together to bring their illustration to life in the form of an interactive sculpture to proudly sit in the foyer at the Barbican.
Entrusted with the task of designing a sculpture that would stand at 2 meters tall, whilst keeping the essence of Pickle Illustrations distinctive style, we couldn’t wait to get stuck into another exciting project together.
After a couple of consultation meetings to get an understanding of the ‘like I care’ project and it’s coincidence with RSC’s portrayal of My Neighbour Totoro. We quickly decided that chunky 25mm poplar plywood was the best material to bring this piece to life.
Designed to emphasise each individual part of the illustration we built layers to add depth. This made the sculpture front-heavy which then lead to us designing a simple and discreet supporting base and brackets on the back to keep it stable.
