We were tasked with turning an idea into reality for Friends of the Earth’s latest protest at the Conservative Party conference in Birmingham.

The Friends of the Earth brief was an exciting opportunity to see how far we could push our dowel and key clamp system. The brief seemed pretty simple; build two house structures with panels to represent differing insulation.

However, due to the nature of a pop up protest it was vital that the structures were easily moveable, quick to put up and take down, and stable on the ground without any fixings or supports.

To achieve all of this we made the structures 3 dimensional meaning they could support themselves. This also meant that the structures could be moved with ease without losing their structural integrity. We also designed custom brackets to attach the insulation panels securely.
