Un-Fitted Furniture.

The Brief.

A residential client tasked us with designing an under stairs sideboard that created additional storage, whilst maintaining access to the electric meter and other services.

What Did We Do?

We designed a unit that gave the impression of being permanent, however it can be removed when access to services is required. We mounted the unit on rubber caster wheels, ensuring manoeuvrability was easy and no damage would be caused to the hardwood floor in the process. Making the doors overhang the cabinet we were able to give the illusion that the furniture was fixed in place.

We designed the unit with a single cupboard and a double cupboard space, both containing adjustable shelving. This offers a range of storage options and easy accessibility. The separating internal panel provides the unit with enhanced rigidity, especially when it’s being removed to access the meter behind.

Through fixing battens to the walls we were able to create a secure framework for a false top to sit on. the addition of a facia panel that runs from the cabinet to the bottom of the staircase again creates the illusion of a fitted piece of furniture.

The cabinet is constructed of Birch Plywood, with Moisture Resistant MDF doors and top - Both painted to the clients specification.

Key Points:  Access To Services - Versatile Storage - Bespoke Finnish - Illusion of Fitted Furniture

Later Additions.

We were later commissioned to design a temporary bookshelf that could be removed if the client decide to change the style of the area. Utalising surplus materials we designed a simple slot together shelving unit that requires no fixings or glue.
